HISTORY

In 1982 the Newport-Mesa Schools Foundation was established to raise funds to augment needed instructional programs in the District's public schools. For many years, the Foundation provided supplemental funding for identified District-wide curriculum and classroom needs after state funding was severely limited.

In 1984 "Kids Can't Wait" was chosen as the motto for the Newport-Mesa Schools Foundation. That same year the "Grants to Teachers" program was established for teacher inspired classroom programs. This Grants Program is available to all certified staff throughout the K-12, 29-school Newport-Mesa Unified School District encompassing over 20,000 students from a wide range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
100% of all donations go directly into the classroom to support these clearly defined and teacher inspired projects, which enrich the experiences of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa students. Our motto "Kids Can't Wait" remains as significant as ever.
