How Can You Help?

There are a number of ways you can join us in the effort to make a difference in a child’s life.

1. Become a member of the NMSF Board.
The Board meets once a month on the second Thursday of the month at 8:15AM in our office on 16th St. Some times of the year are busy. We gear up to bestow the grants in February of each year. The Board raises money, prepares and sends out the grant applications, conducts a membership drive annually, arranges for the grants to be read and rated, arranges a wonderful annual banquet and presents an average of 100+ grants to teachers each year. Some of us can donate money, some donate time, some collect and donate products for the annual Silent Auction at the banquet, and everybody contributes ideas. The Board is comprised of a fun bunch of people with the common interest of making it better for kids. If you are interested in joining the Board, call President Barbara Harrington at (714) 556-6508 or Vice President Scott Paulsen at (949) 644-5578.

2. Volunteer to read grants in November.
Sixty-five to seventy community members read the grants each November and gather to rank and rate them at a dinner at the District office on Bear St. Each volunteer reader usually reads twenty or so grants, and every grant is read by at least five different people. The Board Members do not participate in the scoring and rating of the grants. If you are interested in being a reader, call and leave your name on the tape at (949) 631-3293.

3.Work on individual projects.
We spend time stapling, collating, mailing, organizing notebooks for our readers and writing thank you notes. Our banquet is a wonderful event and help is always welcome in its organization. We always need extra hands at infrequent times during the year. If you are interested in being contacted to help, leave your name and contact information on the tape at (949) 631-3293.

4. Fundraising.
A subcommittee of the Board is involved in fundraising. We contact individuals, foundations, local businesses, student’s parents and write grants to obtain our goal amount for grants each year of $200,000. We would love to have your help. Interested? (949) 631-3293
